print
update: Mar 30,2010
The Ichikawa City Higashiyama Kaii Memorial Hall was opened in November 2005 in Ichikawa City, as a tribute to painter, Higashiyama Kaii, the leading exponent of 20th century Japanese arts, who spent most of his life in Ichikawa City.
Soon after the war in 1945 until his death in 1999, Higashima Kaii lived in Ichikawa City for more than 50 years. His brilliant work as a painter is the pride of Ichikawa. He was known as a great artist, though he still kept on searching for himself. While he was working as an artist, he was living an ascetic life, just like a Buddhist monk. His way of life was manifested in his paintings of calm and peaceful sceneries. It can be said that the path of life he took made him the person that he was and molded Higashiyama Kaii's world. Ichikawa City Higashiyama Kaii Memorial Hall's concept is "Mankind & Higashiyama Kaii". Documents related to his life story and works are exhibited here, including other materials or information describing his great achievements is available.
