update: Nov 25,2009

Tekona Reido is a shrine believed to have been erected at the beginning of the Bunki Period (1501). Many people flock to Tekona Reido to fulfill their wishes for a smooth child birth, pray for nurturing of children, and to cure diseases such as, smallpox. Tekona is the name of the legendary beautiful maiden who was the subject of many famous poems in "Manyoushu" (The Anthology of a Myriad Leaves), that was compiled, from the later part of the 7th century to the later part of the 8th century. It is Japan's oldest known collection of poems. Around the shrine, "single-leaved ditch reeds" are growing as mentioned in the folk tale of Tekona. Also, below the wisteria trellis, famous literary figure, Toyo Yoshida's stone tablet with haiku inscription can be found.
