A Horseshoe-Shaped Shell Mound

In 1969, this area was designated as a national historic site, and was transformed into a park to provide an educational site for the general public.
The site, a horseshoe-shaped shell mound built during the Jomon Period (2000-4000 years ago), has been widely known since the Meiji Era. It is located in a hilly area next to an archaeological museum and a natural history museum.
