How to stop bleeding

print
update: Nov 25,2009

Direct pressure hemostasis

This is a method to stop bleeding by directly applying strong pressure to the wound with a gauze, towel, etc.
  • Cover the wound with a gauze, towel, etc. and apply strong pressure to it with your hand. If applying pressure with one hand does not stop the bleeding, use both of your hands and/or your body weight to increase the pressure.
  • If the blood continues to discharge in spite of the pressure, place some more gauze, towels, etc. and apply pressure.

It is advisable to use rubber gloves or plastic bags for the prevention of infection.
Press hard. The blood will not stop if there is not sufficient pressure.
