Flower Arrangement (Ikebana)

print
update: Nov 25,2009
Literally means, "to keep flowers alive", IKEBANA is the Japanese traditional art of floral arrangement that became popular in the 16th century, and originated as a common practice of offering flowers to Buddha by the monks in the 6th century. Just like in common flower arrangement, Ikebana is the same act of putting cut flowers and branches into the flower vase to appreciate and enjoy it. However, in Ikebana, more importance is given to the etiquette involved in this traditional art. In Japan, there are many schools teaching different styles of Ikebana, some based on traditional molds. Ikebana is usually displayed inside the tea ceremony room.
