1. Where to see cherry blossom in Ichikawa City
Spring is just around the corner. There are about thirty locations of various sizes where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms in the city.

Satomi Park Cherry Blossoms Festival
Period: Saturday, March 18 to Sunday, April 2 between 9 am and 6pm
Night illumination: March 25 (Sat), March 26 (Sun), April 1 (Sat) and April 2 (Sun) between 6 pm and 8 pm (It will be cancelled in case of rain. The illumination period may be changed depending on the situation).

2. Cautions while bicycling
Wear a helmet
Starting from Saturday, April 1, all cyclists will be obliged to make sincere efforts to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle.
March is a promotional period for encouraging bicyclists to wear helmets. Promotional events are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, March 15. 2 pm (Gyotoku Ekimae station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai line) and 3 pm (around Yawata elementary school).
“Bicycle guidance awareness priority areas/routes” in Ichikawa City that are determined by the police
Ichikawa 1-chome, Yawata 3-chome and Gyotoku ekimae street
Violations by cyclists that are frequently seen in these areas include entering closed railways, riding bicycles while using an umbrella or smartphone, running red lights, and not slowing down or stopping at sidewalks. The police will arrest violators when they see malicious/dangerous traffic violations.
Area around Sugano station on the Keisei line becomes bicycle abandonment prohibition district
Starting from Saturday, April 1, the area around Sugano station on the Keisei line will become a bicycle abandonment prohibition district. Please use a toll-parking facility when you want to park your bicycle. Any bicycles and motorbikes that are left in this district are subject to be impounded. Bicycles and motorbikes will be kept for up to one month. A handling charge applies.
Bicycle parking fees are partially exempted for residents of high school age and younger
As an emergency support measure, starting from April 2023 for a while, bicycle parking fees will be half-exempted for Ichikawa residents of high school age and younger.
Buy bicycle insurance
Be prepared for possible risks of accidents by buying bicycle insurance.
Also, check the insurance coverage that you and your family have.

3. Your cooperation will be much appreciated during the busy season
Every year between mid-February and early May, many residents visit City Hall for relocation registrations. City Hall Building 1 is particularly busy on Mondays, days after public holidays and days before weekends and holidays. Please be mindful that registration may take longer than usual during the busy season.
Things you can do without coming to City Hall
- Obtaining certificates by post.
- Obtaining certificates at a convenience store using your My Number Card.

At City Hall Building 1 and the Gyotoku branch office, prior appointment services are available in order to shorten visitors’ waiting time.
You can make an appointment concerning:
Relocation registration, family registry, pregnancy/child rearing, long-term care insurance, national health insurance, medical insurance for people aged 75 and over, national pension, support for the disabled and consultation about the deceased, etc.
You cannot make an appointment concerning:
Issuance of certificates, seal registration or municipal tax payment.

4. Ichikawa City Scholarships
For students with excellent academic performance, the city will provide nonrepayable scholarships. These scholarships are funded by the Ohata Tsutomu Education Fund and city financial resources.
Granted period:
One year (April 2023 to March 2024)
Scholarship:
Public schools: 9,000 yen per month
Private schools: 15,000 yen per month
Eligibility:
- Persons who are scheduled to be present or enter high school, secondary school (limited to late-term only) or technical college in April 2023.
- Persons who live in Ichikawa City.
- Persons who show excellent academic performance and good conduct, and are expected to complete school with an average evaluation of at least 3 out of 5 in all subjects.
- Persons who have financial difficulties.
- Persons who are not in receipt of other grants and/or loans for expenses other than tuitions.
- Persons who have a recommendation letter from their current School Principal.
Approximately 131 persons who meet the above requirements will be selected. In case of exceeding the budget, applicants may not be able to receive the scholarships regardless of eligibility.
How to apply:
Please bring your application documents and required documents to the Division of School Attendance Support (City Hall Building 2) by Friday, March 31. Please do not send the application documents by post. Application forms are downloadable from the Ichikawa City official website.
