1. Three types of support for disaster prevention in Ichikawa

This year marks one hundred years since the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.
Three types of support: your own preparation, support between yourself and your neighbors and public support.

≪This month’s notice≫ － “Seismic breakers” help prevent fires from starting following earthquakes.
Both the Great Hanshin Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake caused major damage which then triggered fires, and more than 60 per cent of those fires were caused by electrical shorts. In order to prevent electricity-related fires, seismic breakers are effective because they automatically shut down the electricity when they detect tremors. Installation of a seismic breaker in each home will prevent fires from spreading to neighboring homes. Simple seismic breakers can be bought at your local hardware store, and it is advisable that everyone consider installing one.

2. The city holds an Exhibition of Now and Old

Ichikawa City will mark the 90th anniversary of becoming a municipality on November 3. In order to set the mood for this commemorative year with all residents together, the city plans to host fun events step by step with the catchphrase of “an exciting city, Ichikawa”. In the first phase of events, the city is going to host a photo exhibition showcasing the city history and various scenes.

3. “The Ichikawa Art Festival” commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Chiba Prefecture

Many events are scheduled for commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Chiba Prefecture.

≪Modern Art Exhibition≫
Modern art works will be displayed created by artists in collaboration with science and engineering research departments in universities all over Japan. Workshops for children and talk shows are also scheduled. For more information, please see this website.

300 yen for adults, 150 yen for high school and university students.
Junior high school students or younger, persons aged 65 and younger, and persons who carry a disabled person’s handbook are free of charge.

≪Events to commemorate the Ichikawa Art Festival≫
Special events are scheduled for Sunday, January 21 at the Chiba Museum of Science and Industry and nearby facilities as a commemoration of the Ichikawa Art Festival.

4. The city holds an Uto-branded goods fair

Ichikawa City has paired with Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture to provide support in case of a disaster. This time, specialties of Uto City, such as citrus fruits and processed food made with local food, are going to be sold in Ichikawa City. Events are scheduled for Saturday, January 13 at Road Station Ichikawa, and Kumamon, the mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture, is coming! ≪こんげつの　おしらせ≫ －「かんしん　ぶれーかー」は　じしんが　おきたときに　かさいを　ふせぎます
はんしん・あわじだいしんさい（1995ねん　1がつ　17にちに　おきた　おおきな　じしん）や　ひがしにほんだいしんさい（2011ねん　3がつ　11にちに　おきた　おおきな　じしん）では　かさいで　おおくの　ひがい（ものが　こわれたり　ひとが　けがを　したり　すること）が　でました。その　かさいの　6わり（60ぱーせんと）くらいは　でんきが　かんけいしていました。「かんしん　ぶれーかー」は　でんきの　かさいを　ふせぐことが　できます。じしんの　ゆれ（うごくこと）を　かんじると　じどうてきに　でんきを　きります。「かんしん　ぶれーかー」を　いえに　つけると　ひが　でることを　ふせぎ　ほかの　いえに　ひが　ひろがることも　ふせぐことが　できます。「かんしん　ぶれーかー」は　ほーむせんたーなどで　かうことが　できるので　いえに　つけることを　かんがえて　ください。

2.「こんじゃく（いまと　むかし）しゃしんてん」を　おこないます

いちかわしは　11がつ　3にちに　しせいしこう（あたらしい　しを　つくること）90しゅうねんを　むかえます。みなさんと　いっしょに　きねんに　なる　1ねんに　する　ために　「わくわくするまち　いちかわ」を　うたいもんく（おぼえてもらうための　ことば）に　しました。しせいしこう90しゅうねんに　むけて　いろいろな　たのしい　きかくを　おこないます。さいしょの　きかくは　いちかわしの　れきしを　まなんだり　しゃしんを　みたり　することが　できる　しゃしんてんです。
