1. Child rearing options in Ichikawa City

To provide child-rearing support to all households fairly, regardless of their parenting environment （e.g., enrolling in childcare facilities or raising kids at home）, the city will begin the “Free Childcare for the First Child” and the “Ichikawa Child Benefit” program in September. The city will make every effort to support households with children and create a safe environment for raising kids.

If you enroll your children in nursery schools or kindergartens, nursing fees will be waived.

Starting in September 2026, childcare fees at childcare facilities will be free regardless of income. Children enrolled in unlicensed childcare facilities and kindergartens will also be eligible for free childcare. For more information, please visit the official Ichikawa City website.

Children who meet all of the following conditions:

• Children aged 5 and under who are registered residents of Ichikawa City.
• Children who are enrolled in licensed nursery schools, unlicensed childcare facilities, or kindergartens.
• Guardians must fall under the eligibility requirements, such as employment and maternity leave.

For those raising kids at home： Ichikawa Child Benefits - 15,000 yen （new）

Starting in September, the city will provide a 15,000 yen benefit per month to eligible children who are enrolled in nursey school or kindergarten. There are no income restrictions. For more information, please visit the official Ichikawa City website.

【Eligibility】
Children who meet all of the following conditions:

• Preschool-aged children （From 57 days old until entering elementary school） who are registered residents of Ichikawa City.
• Children who are not enrolled in licensed or unlicensed childcare facilities, or kindergartens. （Children who are not eligible for free nursing fees.）

【Amount of benefits】
15,000 yen per month

2. Places in the city where you can play in the water

There are many places in the city where you can freely play in the water. Cooling off at a nearby body of water is a great idea for summer. Here are some places you may want to explore:

Minami Gyotoku Park – Recreational Pond

【Date and time】
Until Wednesday, September 30.
From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will be canceled in case of rain.

Ekimae Park – Fountain Area

【Date and time】
Until Wednesday, September 30.
From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will be canceled in case of rain and/or strong winds.
The fountains operate every half an hour for 15 minutes.

Osu Bosai Park – Water Play Area

【Date and time】
Until Wednesday, September 30.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mini swimming pools and 25-meter pools in public parks

Mini swimming pools and 25-meter pools are available in public parks throughout the city. Lifeguards are on duty to ensure security while the mini pools are open.

※ There may be times when the 25-meter pool pumps are suspended. Please check the hours in the aforementioned link before visiting the pools.

【Dates】
Until Monday, August 31. Closed on Fridays.

【User Guide】
Mini pools are open to children up to Grade 3 students. Babies and infants wearing diapers are not permitted.
Preschoolers must be accompanied by a guardian.
The 25-meter pools are open to anyone except babies and infants wearing diapers.

3. Water bills between July and October will be waived by 20%

To lessen the financial burden caused by the recent price hike, the Chiba Prefecture Waterworks will waive 20 % of the water bill for general households, based on meter readings between July and October.
Additionally, the Chiba Prefecture Waterworks is currently offering a promotion to waive 20% of the November/December meter reading if you register on the Chiba Prefecture Waterworks My Portal and switch from paper notices to online notifications by Wednesday, September 30.

4. The Pedestrian Zone that will put you in the mood for a trip - Gyotoku Night Market and Gyotoku World Festival

The venue has been expanded this year. This summer night event will make you feel like you’re on vacation, right in your own neighborhood. The shopping street will be closed to vehicles and open to pedestrians for lots of fun!

Saturday, August 29 from 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. The event will be postponed to the following day in case of inclement weather.

県営水道では、物価高（物の　ねだんが　上がっていること）による　家庭の　ふたんを　減らすため、7月から　10月に　けんしん（確認すること）する　水道料金を20％　安くします。また、県営水道「マイポータル」に　登録して　けんしん表を　9月30日（水曜）までに　オンライン通知を　選ぶと、水道料金が　11月と　12月の　検針分も　20％　安くなります。
